Mitsubishi Magna Advance TF, It is a 3.0 litre 5 Speed manual
and is pretty rare it took me over 8 months to locate a speciman
like this and it was well worth it. The Mitsubishi 6G72 engine
started life as a joint Mitsubishi / Chrysler project well
back altho the basic design of this engine dates back to the
early 80's it is still a great mill and is used in many cars
by both Mitsubishi and Chrysler it is even used in the Mitsubishi
GTO / 3000GT Twin Turbo which can put out incredible power.
Now back to the "Cheap version" SOHC 24 valve one
i have been blessed with, it puts out about 140kw stock at
the flywheel and about 255nm torque, the car has a curb weight
of about 1400kg this is decent car , it can beat commodores
and falcons 3.8 , 4.0 , 5.7's and even V8's. To date the best
1/8 mile 200meter time is 10.50 and that was in stock form
with the spare tyre and everything left in the boot.
For the power up i got a full exhaust system made up by D&T
exhaust in South Australia. They claim it add's 14kw at the front wheel's
but i would highly doubt this as the exhaust is just 2 1/4 press bends where
the Stock magna exhaust is 2 1/4 Mandrel bent, and it uses what appears to
be a dog leg muffler pretty restrictive. The good part ? i got a set of 3-1
Extractors from Pacemaker. Pacemaker are some of the bext premade extractors/headers
that you can get made in Australia i got them coated. I also bought a K&N
panel filter to replace the stock intake paper filter which when installed
i noted a slightly free revving engine, plus you should never have to replace
it but only clean it.
Not a Powerup but to inprove gear shift times and well just
to get a better feeling shifter i bought a RPW short shifter
unit, Which is a stock unit modified to make it a short
shifter. the unit is made taller then the ratio for the
point above the shift axis and below it are modified , however
some parts where missing and i needed to purchase myself
but after i ordered it about a month later ( long story
) i finally got it in and it did improve shift sideways
and length ways atleat 30 to 50 % and feels much more taught
then the stock one which is pretty slopy. Also to fit on
the RPW short shifter to make it look nice and feel good
i bought a Momo leather boot cover and a Momo full leather
shift knob , they are look and feel great.
Body work
Too look a little different from the other Magnas driven around
by old people i removed my front garnish bar and sanded the paint back and
then painted it in flat black and then a coat of gloss protector it looks
very nice. And yes of course a re glued the Tri diamond badge back onto it
, just a caution though when i was removing it i broke 3 retaining plastic
screws when i went to mitsubishi to replace them they where AUD$4.00 each
!! for a piece of plastic worth about 20 cents.
Also to look DIfferent and add some driving lights for better
vision at night i added a pair of small driving lights , i got a set with
inbuilt parker lamps because i intended to upgrade my main lights to one's
from a Diamante which look better but i never got around to it. But they
come with a Blue parker light this is illegal to use while driving so i replaced
it with a pure white one so i can drive with it switched on ( they come on
when the main parker lights come on ) i just took out the fog light cover
and put them in but this looked ugly so i went to Mitsubishi and got a pair
of fog light covers from a TH model they look very nice but they don't fit
you need to modify them but once done it looks better then any aftermarket
install it even looks better then the Mitsubishi fog lights which cost about
AUD$500.00 my aftermarket set including everything ( the lights , the wires
, the connectors , the relays , the switch's and the fog covers ) only cost
about AUD $150.00. I will put up an article how to do this when i get time.
The other things which i have done to improve looks is to remove
( debadge ) all of the rear badge's not including the rear boot garnish (
the gray strip with Magna imprinted on it ) and it looks much better for
it . Some people like to spend allot of money on those Euro/altezza clear
tail lights but not only are they dangerous but they look silly to me , with
the badges gone and the smallish taillights on the back constrasting Red
on White it really gives the car some character, well now the new commodore
basically took the rear lights from a Magna made them smaller and slapped
them on there new Commodore.
I also have got all the windows ( but not the front window
;) tinted in Darkest legal tint , i didn't want any defects just over tint.
this makes the car a little cooler and makes it harder to see inside and
im sure makes the window harder to break even if its only a small bit.
Foot Work
I was looking at getting some nice 17 inch wheels but insurance
was a problem so i just didn't bother , plus Mag wheels don't really bother
me that much. instead i got some Good Year Eagle F1's 15 inch 215 they are
nice and wide so give pretty good grip, Even though they look like wet weather
tyres I've noticed that in the wet they are pretty horrible braking and turning
is very sloppy, wheel i guess a 1400kg car in the wet isnt gonna be fun nomatter
what tyre you have. For insurance the Suspension remains stock for now.
Internal Modifications
For intertainment mods ive just replaced
the stock headunit with a Pioneer DEH 5250 and replaced all
the speakers with mid range pioneer stuff, music isnt that importand to me
as
i prefer
listening to the smooth V6 revving to 6000Rpm and still sounding like harmony.
Also i added a small console that screws in place of the ash tray so if you
want to take it out you can with no marks or traces of it. It contains a
VDO oil pressure gauge ( not yet hooked up ) and switch's for both the fog
lights and to turn on the thermal fans to cool the engine , there will be
a How to Article on this when i get some time.
